How to see salon profit from your GlossGenius export
Booking reports show sales. Profit after wages needs the export plus wages.
GlossGenius is excellent at bookings and checkout. Its reports show sales by day and by team member. They do not usually show profit after wages, revenue per labor hour or which quiet hours cost you money. Export the line-item sales file you already use, add paid hours and wages, and you can see profit by day and by stylist. Tangled Analytics does that from the same export. It is an add-on, not a replacement for GlossGenius.
What GlossGenius reports show (and what they do not)
GlossGenius is built for bookings and sales. Its reports are good at showing tickets, staff sales and busy days. They usually do not subtract wages and payroll tax from those sales, and they do not show revenue per labor hour or profit after wages by day and by stylist.
Typical GlossGenius views cover transactions, staff sales and commissions. They stop short of lining each day's sales against paid hours as profit after wages.
That gap is normal. Booking software is not a profit dashboard. The same pattern shows up in Vagaro, Square, Phorest, etc.: strong sales views, thin profit views.
Sales is not profit after wages
| Week view (example) | Sales in booking report | Payroll + tax | Profit after wages |
| Monday | $1,100 | $1,250 | -$150 |
| Thursday | $2,800 | $1,400 | +$1,400 |
| Saturday | $5,400 | $1,900 | +$3,500 |
Made-up salon. The booking report can look fine on Monday while that day loses money after wages.
Owners who only watch ticket totals miss quiet paid hours. Pair sales with revenue per labor hour, payroll percentage and profit margin so one busy Saturday cannot hide a weak midweek.
Export from GlossGenius, then see profit
Export the transaction detail (line-item) sales report for whole days, with all staff included when you have a team. The click path is short on a computer.
- Follow the step-by-step export guide: how to export from GlossGenius.
- Upload that file to Tangled Analytics (or start with the free profit snapshot: no account, no card).
- Read profit by day and by stylist, plus RPLH and labor share, from the same export you already pull for bookkeeping.
Tangled is an add-on that sits on top of GlossGenius. It does not replace your booking system, calendar or checkout. Keep GlossGenius for appointments. Use Tangled when you want the money picture those reports skip.
Export how-tos for other systems live on the export guides hub: GlossGenius, Vagaro, Square, Phorest, etc.
What you can do once you see the picture
- Cut or shorten days that stay under the wage floor (closing slow days).
- Match paid hours to booked hours (schedule stylists to demand).
- Raise prices where the book is full (how to raise salon prices).
- Follow the profit-first sequence in how to maximize salon profits and how to make more money with a salon.
Also useful: what is a good RPLH, profit per stylist from GlossGenius or Vagaro, busy but not profitable.
Quick answers
Does GlossGenius show salon profit after wages?
GlossGenius shows sales, commissions and related staff reports. It does not usually show profit after wages by day and stylist, or revenue per labor hour against your wage cost. You need the sales export plus paid hours and wages for that picture.
How do I see profit from a GlossGenius export?
Export the line-item sales report, then combine it with paid hours and wage cost. Tangled Analytics reads that export and shows profit by day and stylist, plus RPLH. Start with the free profit snapshot at tangleddata.com, or follow the GlossGenius export guide on this site.
Is Tangled a GlossGenius alternative?
No. Tangled is an add-on for profit analytics. Keep GlossGenius for bookings and checkout. Use Tangled when you want profit after wages, RPLH and labor share from the export you already download.
What if I use Vagaro, Square or Phorest instead?
Same idea: export sales, then see profit. Guides exist for Vagaro, Square, Phorest, etc. on the Tangled export guides hub.
