Can GlossGenius or Vagaro show profit per stylist?
They show what each stylist sold. Profit takes one more step.
Your booking app is great at the client side: the book, checkout, reminders, tips. Its reports show what each stylist sold. What they do not show on their own is what is left after that stylist's hours are paid. That is the number that tells you who is carrying the week and who needs a fuller book.
What the built-in reports cover
- GlossGenius has sales, payroll and commission, expense and transaction reports. You can see each team member's sales and their pay, but the two are not lined up side by side as profit per stylist per hour.
- Vagaro has an Employee Sales report (sales, tips, service count by provider) and a Time Card report for hours. Again, both pieces exist, just in separate places.
So the ingredients are already in your app. They just need to be mixed: what someone brought in, next to what their time on the clock cost.
See it as a picture, not a spreadsheet
Think of each stylist as a bar showing what they bring in for every hour they are paid. The dashed line is what an hour on the clock costs the salon.
Made-up salon. Gold stylists cover their hours. Rose means the book needs filling, not that the stylist is doing badly.
A stylist under the line usually has a book problem, not a talent problem: too many gaps, or a schedule that puts them on the floor at quiet times. That is a coaching and scheduling conversation, not a blame one.
How to do it yourself
- Export your sales by stylist for a month (GlossGenius checkout export, or Vagaro Employee Sales).
- Pull each person's paid hours for the same month (payroll or Time Card).
- For each stylist, divide what they brought in by their paid hours.
- Compare that to what an hour of their time costs you, including payroll taxes and a share of rent.
- Use it to fill books and adjust schedules, and share each person's own picture with them kindly.
Quick answers
Does GlossGenius show profit per stylist?
GlossGenius shows sales, commissions and payroll per team member, plus overall expenses. It does not line up each stylist's sales against their paid hours as profit per stylist, so you need to combine the sales export with hours and wages.
Does Vagaro have a profit per employee report?
Vagaro's Employee Sales report shows what each provider sold and its Time Card report shows hours, but there is no single report of profit after wages per stylist. Combining the two gives you that number.
How do I calculate profit per stylist in a salon?
Take what the stylist brought in for a period, subtract their wages and payroll taxes for the hours they were paid, and subtract their share of product and fixed costs. Dividing by paid hours shows what each of their hours earns.
Is there a tool that shows profit per stylist from GlossGenius or Vagaro?
Tangled Analytics reads the GlossGenius checkout export and a Vagaro daily summary, plus Square, Phorest, etc., and shows profit per stylist and per hour. A free one-page profit snapshot is available at tangleddata.com with no signup.
