Tangled vs booking-software reports
Sales reports show tickets. Profit after wages needs the export plus wages.
GlossGenius, Vagaro, Square, Phorest, etc. are excellent at bookings and checkout. Their sales reports show tickets, staff sales and busy days. They do not usually show profit after wages, revenue per labor hour or which paid hours lost money. Tangled Analytics sits next to that software. It is not a booking replacement.
Sales reports are not a profit dashboard
Booking software is built to fill the book and take payment. Reports lean toward sales by day, by stylist and by service. Wages, payroll tax and paid hours usually live somewhere else — a timesheet, a payroll run or a separate screen. Until you line those up, “a good Saturday” can hide a Monday that lost money after wages.
That gap is normal. It shows up across GlossGenius, Vagaro, Square, Phorest, etc.
Side by side
| Tangled Analytics | Booking-software reports | |
|---|---|---|
| Profit per stylist hour | Yes. Service sales per paid stylist hour, after wages, by day and by stylist. | Sales per stylist, not per paid hour, and not after wages. |
| Money-losing hours | Yes. Every hour is checked against your break-even line. | Sales by hour, but not against what that hour cost you. |
| Overstaffed shifts | Yes. Tickets by weekday and hour next to who was on the floor. | The schedule and the sales live in separate screens. |
| W-2 hourly or commission labor cost | Yes. Set each stylist’s rate or commission tiers once. | Some systems report commission or timesheets, but not set against sales by the hour. |
| Booking and checkout | No. Tangled does not take appointments. | Yes. Keep your booking software for the calendar and front desk. |
Your booking software is still where you book and check out. Tangled reads the file it exports. Same framing as the homepage comparison.
How Tangled uses the export
Export the sales file you already pull for bookkeeping, upload it, and read profit by day and stylist plus RPLH. Native parsers exist for several systems; others use a daily summary CSV. Step guides live on the guides hub.
Quick answers
Is Tangled a booking software alternative?
No. Keep GlossGenius, Vagaro, Square, Phorest, etc. for appointments and checkout. Tangled is an add-on for profit after wages, RPLH and labor share from the export you already download.
Do booking reports show profit after wages?
Usually not as a single day-and-stylist view. They show sales. Profit after wages needs sales lined up with paid hours and wage cost.
What is RPLH and why don’t booking reports show it?
Revenue per labor hour is service revenue divided by paid stylist hours. Booking reports rarely combine sales with paid hours against your wage floor. See what is a good RPLH.
How do I try Tangled without switching booking systems?
Leave your booking software alone. Send a sales export for the free profit snapshot at tangleddata.com, or upload inside an account. Nothing connects live to your POS.
