Estimates only, not tax advice. Rent day assumes your sales are spread evenly through a 30-day month.

How it works

Product and card fees come off every sale. Rent and monthly costs are fixed. What is left, divided by your hours, is your real hourly. Example: $2,000 a week in sales, 8% product and 2.6% card fees leaves $1,788. Take off $250 rent and about $21 of monthly costs and you keep about $1,517, or $47 an hour over 32 hours.

This uses one average for all your work. Your balayage and your bang trims are not worth the same per hour, and a few regulars may cost you money. Tangled Solo reads your GlossGenius, Vagaro, Square, Phorest, etc. export and does this per service and per client.

Quick answers

How do I figure out my take-home as a booth renter?

Start with your weekly service sales. Subtract product and backbar, card fees, rent, software and other costs. Divide what is left by the hours you work to get your take-home per hour, then set aside a share for taxes.

How many clients do I need to cover booth rent?

Divide your weekly rent by what an average service leaves after product and card fees. At $250 a week rent and $85 left per service, that is about 3 services a week.

What is a good take-home per hour for a booth renter?

It depends on your market, but many renters aim for at least $40 to $60 an hour before taxes. If you are below that, raising prices on your slowest services usually helps more than adding hours.

How much should a booth renter set aside for taxes?

Many self-employed stylists set aside 25 to 30 percent of profit for income and self-employment tax. This is an estimate, not tax advice. Ask a tax pro for your rate.
